How did artillery work without modern technology?

How did people know where to bomb using artillery without modern technology? (Ex The American Civil War, WWI, maybe WWII)

The idea is to have a forward observer, maybe on a hill nearby. You take your best bet, fire a test salvo. The observer tells you where it lands, by flag signals, telegraph or telephone wires, heliograph etc, and you correct for it, up a bit. left a bit, sort of. Earlier artillery was mostly with ships, and the cannon balls were skimmed along the sea surface, at fairly close range, so they could hit the side of the ship, something like ten pin bowling.

Is Sarah Palin Commander of Alaska’s National Guard?

Posted on August 31st, 2009 by admin in the batallion | 9 Comments »

Is Alaska our first line of defense in our Missle Interceptor Defense System? Does the 49th. Missile Defense Batallion of the Alaska national guard protect our entire nation from ballistic missile attacks?
She must be exposed to a tremendous amount of classified information on military issues, Homeland security and counterterrorism. Would this hinder her V.P. aspireations?

yes, she is the current commander in chief of the alaskan national guard. this is one of the reasons why alaska get tons of aid from the government to maintain the missile silos. its worth every penny considering Russia is only 50 miles away.

how many (active) generals are in the USMC?

Posted on August 31st, 2009 by admin in batallion | 4 Comments »

i am trying to make a small comparison.. is number 10 a good approximate? from what i got, every batallion is commanded by a colonel, there are three Btns into a Bde, three Bdes to Div, and three Div to Corps. that would make 3*3+1= ten generals (regardless of number of stars)

The Marine Corps has as of March 31st 2009 :

0-10 General – 4
0-9 Lt General – 16
0-8 Major general – 23
0-7 – Brig General – 40

I have all these screenshots just sitting there, I thought the best way to show them off would be to put together this lil’ recruitment video. This isn’t really an official recruitment video, more to show off what we can achieve.
