how many (active) generals are in the USMC?

i am trying to make a small comparison.. is number 10 a good approximate? from what i got, every batallion is commanded by a colonel, there are three Btns into a Bde, three Bdes to Div, and three Div to Corps. that would make 3*3+1= ten generals (regardless of number of stars)

The Marine Corps has as of March 31st 2009 :

0-10 General – 4
0-9 Lt General – 16
0-8 Major general – 23
0-7 – Brig General – 40

    No.

First off, there are no "Bde’s" in the Marines, Brigades are for the Army. The Marines have Companies-Battalions-Regiments-Divisions.

As far as the number, you forget that every single one of those levels has a lot of attachments and support, everything from air-wingers to supply to admin, etc.

I don’t know the exact number, but I would guess it’s closer to 500, the Marines publish an FMF record every year listing stuff like that, you could try searching for it.

By law, it’s capped at 80.

No more than three 4-star generals
About a dozen 3-star, lieutenant generals
    2 dozen 2-star, major generals
    Forty 1-star, brigadier generals
