how many troops are in a batallion?

say you have an infantry batallion would it be all infantrymen or would they have other mos’ in it too

A battalion generally has a total strength of about 500. Most would be infantry but there would also be support trades as well. Medics, cooks, supply, finance etc.

  1. 4 to a team
    4 teams to a squad
    3 squads to a platoon
    3 platoons to a company
    3 companys to a battalion
    Hope that helps.

  2. david r has it all jacked up.
    4 men to a team
2 teams to a squad + squad leader
4-5 squads for a platoon + PSG and PL
3 infantry platoons + 1 headquarters platoon to a company +1sg, XO, and CO
    4 infantry companies + an hhc company to a battalian +XO +BC +CSM

in the infantry platoons the permanent party are all infantry. in HHC there are medics who are tasked out to the infantry platoons (line medics)

  3. Marines have squads of 13, so that’s 3 fireteams plus the squad sergeant. 3 squads plus the Lt. is a Platoon.

This is all the standard, but in real life none of these numbers are exact. You can have a platoon of only 20 guys, it depends, but standard is 3 squads is a platoon.

Anyways, a battalion can be from 400-500 guys really

  5. My unit has:

Head Quarters, Alpha, Bastard, Charlie, Delta, and Fox Companies.

I’m in Bastard Co. We have 3 platoons and a head quarters element.

In our platoon are 4 squads. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Weapons.

In Each squad theres 2 teams. A team leader and a joe or two.

Fox co holds the non combat arm pogs(cooks/supply/mechanics)

Head Quarters distrubutes Forwar Observers to the hhc for the companies and they give them to platoons. Each platoon has 2 FO’s a senior and his joe. Each platoon also has 1 medic. The non infantryman in a platoon are put under Weapon Squad.

My platoon only had like 20 people this deployment… we were undermanned. But I hear a normal platoon is supposed to have like 30 guys. so you do the math.
