Trainers and athletes have been on to intervals for quite a while now for getting results with workouts but they are really just starting to make their way in to the news as the way to go.
Interval workouts are the treadmill workouts that burn 2 times the calories in a small fraction of the time that steady state boring cardio does. In fact, spread over two weeks it was found that 2 hours of interval training is equal to 10 hours of steady state!
So what are intervals? Small, quick intense burst of sprints or speed during the workout. You might run for a minute or two then quickly raise the speed so you are running fast for 30 seconds or even a minute… then return back down and back up. This ripple affect of cardio confuses the body, makes your heart rate go up and down and in turn has you burning more fat and more calories than you thought possible.
