Is Sarah Palin Commander of Alaska’s National Guard?

Is Alaska our first line of defense in our Missle Interceptor Defense System? Does the 49th. Missile Defense Batallion of the Alaska national guard protect our entire nation from ballistic missile attacks?
She must be exposed to a tremendous amount of classified information on military issues, Homeland security and counterterrorism. Would this hinder her V.P. aspireations?

yes, she is the current commander in chief of the alaskan national guard. this is one of the reasons why alaska get tons of aid from the government to maintain the missile silos. its worth every penny considering Russia is only 50 miles away.

  1. If so, it’s an awesome responsibility and one that only adds to her credentials. But, I don’t know about your facts……or your motive for asking.

Has Obama even been accused of being so responsible?…your mere questioning of such things shows the difference in experience between them.

  6. She’s the commander of the Alaska National Guard. An oxymoron, the National Guard, when doing it’s assigned duty, protects a state. Missile attacks are a measure of National security, which would fall under the Pentagon.

Being a guessing man, I’d speculate that any missile attack on Alaska would be run out of Colorado and an aircraft attack would be rebuffed from Oregon.

Ground attack? Those Alaskans are crazy.

  8. Yes she is.

However, my understanding is that while the 49th is Alaska national Guard, they are activated under federal command, so do not report directly to the Governor (anyone more knowledgeable able to confirm or correct this?).

  9. She is commander of the National Guard for Alaska, BUT…. here is the kicker…. you say "She must be exposed to a tremendous amount of classified information on military issues, Homeland security and counterterrorism." the answer to this is NO. It is the National Guard. When the Guard is activated for combat, they then fall under command of the President. AKA Generals in the Pentagon. It is a "cute" thing to say, but doesn’t mean she understands much because of it. She has no say on their armament, movements, or anything after they are activated. If she wanted to "mobilize" them for an oil spill in Alaska, then yes she is in control. Other than that, she is a cheerleader. Just lipstick on a pig, I mean hick.
