Whales and the Dominican Republic

The SamanĂ¡ Peninsula is on the northern side of the Dominican Republic. The peninsula juts out into the North Atlantic about 30 miles.
In 1824, slaves from the United States found their way to freedom on the island of Hispaniola specifically in the Dominican Republic.
An amazing fact about this peninsula and the associate SamanĂ¡ Bay is that this spot is travelled to by the entire humpback whale population of the North Atlantic; the ultimate in whale watching. This happens because the winter months are when the huge mammals in breeding season. It really does make for a unique adventure.
