I am in the USMC Delayed Entry Program. I am considering a job in the artillery. What is life like in this job?
I know that every Marine is a Rifleman. How true is this in the artillery? Am I very likely to perform the duties of a rifleman. It’s not a problem, I’m just curious.
How likely am I do participate in infantry tactics. I appreciate the answer, but how likely or how often will I participate on a patrol? Will I ever be called to assault or defend a position? Or any other infantry type activity.
Expect a lot of cross training. Artillery is getting used in Afghanistan, but not so much in Iraq, so you will be likely wheeled riflemen there. You should get a wide variety of experience.
Artillery is LOUD, VERY, VERY LOUD

Arty takes alot of skill. It’s not just loading a cannon and firing off rounds. You must learn how to read maps and plot coordinates. All Marines are riflemen! From cooks to mechs to infantry. You will be required to master shooting the rifle from 200, 300, and 500 yards. Every Marine accomplishes that mission before earning the title Marine.

When I was in Iraq, there was a provisional rifle company formed from the artillery battalion at Al-Asad.
As stated before, every Marine is a rifleman.
